President Barzani on PKK dissolution: New chapter in the region
Shafaq News/ On Monday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) decision to dissolve itself and lay down arms, calling it a “pivotal step” toward fostering peaceful coexistence and regional stability.
In a post on X, the president expressed his appreciation for the PKK’s response to leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call to end the armed struggle with Turkiye, describing the decision as a historic transformation that could open a new chapter in the region.
“The present moment is crucial, and there is a collective anticipation that this significant action will be met with further constructive measures from all involved parties,” he added. “It will foster an environment conducive to enduring and comprehensive peace, ultimately bringing an end to years of conflict and hardship while guiding the region towards new avenues of advancement.”

Barzani also praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s peace efforts, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to backing all initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue.
